Phone Calls/Virtual Appointments

For phone calls and virtual appointments, we have a couple of 'Golden Rules' to ensure that Mika captures both sides of the conversation accurately.

The "Person in the Room" Rule: Think of Mika as a person sitting beside you. If the patient’s voice is only in your ear (via headphones or headset), Mika cannot hear them. For Mika to work, the patient’s voice must be audible in the room.

Why can't I use headphones or my headset?

Due to standard computer security and privacy settings, most systems do not allow two different programs (like your EMR and Mika) to share a headset microphone simultaneously.

The "Different Browser" Rule: For virtual appointments on your computer, some browsers will filter out audio coming from that browser.

  • If you're using a desktop app for your virtual session, you can log into Mika on your usual browser and Mika will pick up the audio from your speaker.

  • If you're using your browser for the virtual session, you may need to activate Mika in a different browser (e.g. use Microsoft Edge for your virtual appointment and Google Chrome for Mika) or use a phone/tablet to capture the audio instead.
